Desert Vipers’ Season 4 Sustainability Match Report

Desert Vipers have today released their Season 4 Sustainability Match Report, showcasing a season of effective partnerships and initiative which all combined to reduce the team’s carbon footprint while protecting the environment.

The primary goal was to illustrate how elite sport events serve as a powerful platform to protect and restore nature, while inspiring more and more teams to follow the green path.

Staged as part of the team’s wider Nature Campaign as part of Season 4 of DP World ILT20, the Sustainability Match transformed the Dubai International Stadium into a celebration of nature under the unifying message: “WITHOUT NATURE, THERE IS NO SPORT.”

The match attracted 11,928 fans in-stadium, alongside 4.1 million streaming viewers and 13.9 million TV viewers, amplifying sustainability messaging to a global audience of millions.

The centrepiece of the match was a powerful visual statement: a Sustainability Match kit inspired by the Global Biodiversity Stripes, highlighting the documented 73% decline in average wildlife populations since 1970.

Manufactured in the UAE by PALMFIT using more than 90% recycled materials, the kit was designed not only to reduce environmental impact but to spark conversation around biodiversity loss and its implications for sport.

Additionally, the Desert Vipers Season 4 Sustainability Match served as an opportunity to trial new ways to reduce the environmental impact of sport, with several notable initiatives:

●      Bluewater Group’s next-generation LED water filtration units provided premium and more sustainable hydration solutions for players and coaches;

●      Fuelre4m were introduced to ground staff and transport providers, who agreed a trial to use the Re4mx fuel reformer which reduces fuel consumption by approximately 15-20%;

●      No red meat was served in the hospitality seating;

●      Air-conditioning was turned off early, reducing energy use by 29.6% in trial areas;

●      Vuelta Carbon offset 100% of emissions through verified carbon offsetting projects.

Beyond environmental benefits, the Desert Vipers Season 4 Sustainability Match also brought people together, particularly in the Crickmas Zone where activations from Partners educated and inspired fans around nature and sustainability – some of whom were attending their first ever cricket match.

A coordinated social media campaign away from the Dubai Stadium ensured this message extended far beyond the stadium, achieving a reach of 5.9 million, and engagement of 324,000.

The Nature campaign continued beyond the match, with the Vipers continuing to display the message “WITHOUT NATURE, THERE IS NO SPORT”, throughout the remainder of their championship-winning Season 4.

Ben Hardy-Jones, Business Sustainability Lead for the Desert Vipers said: “The Season 4 Desert Vipers Sustainability Match was built around nature, as part of our wider Season 4 Nature Campaign. Once again, we trialled innovative ways to reduce sport’s impact on the natural world – but this season, the match went further, actively celebrating our planet.

“Thank you to everyone across the Desert Vipers family who helped bring this vision to life. We are proud to continue playing with purpose for people and planet.”

Phil Oliver, CEO for the Desert Vipers, added: “The Season 4 Desert Vipers Sustainability Match Report marks some of the highlights from a very special event. At Desert Vipers, we believe that cricket can be a powerful catalyst for positive change, and this match demonstrates how high performance, collaboration, and sustainability can work together to create lasting value for our sport, communities, and planet. Thank you to all of the Desert Vipers staff for making the event so impactful, and to all of our Partners, Suppliers, and the team at DP World ILT20 for supporting us with our ambitions.”

Jana Janotova, Senior Programme Coordinator, Sports for Nature at International Union for Conservation of Nature, further added: “Desert Vipers once again demonstrated that sporting events can inspire thousands not only by showcasing the best sport, and in this case cricket, has to offer, but also by standing for values and principles that go beyond sport. At Sports for Nature, we are delighted that they were able to use their platform to spread awareness about the importance of nature for sport.

“This match directly addressed Principle 4 of the Sports for Nature Framework – to educate and inspire positive action for nature across and beyond sport. Congratulations to the whole team for the inspiring event and the win.”

The Desert Vipers Season 4 Sustainability Match Report will be followed later this year by the Season 4 People & Planet Report, where all of the sustainability initiatives, including a full breakdown of the team’s carbon footprint, will be shown.
