The Desert Vipers Talent Pathway is designed to identify, nurture, and develop elite cricket talent, particularly focusing on players in the UAE and broader Gulf region, to create a structured development pathway that allows promising cricketers to emerge and progress.

Our experienced coaches’ ultimate aim is to find the next Viper to represent us in the DP World ILT20. Let’s go!

Our Aims

Talent ID

Scouting and selecting high-potential boys and girls at U14, U16, U19 age level.

Elite Coaching

Providing access to top-level coaching, facilities, and support systems (e.g., fitness, nutrition, sports psychology).

Performance

Using data analytics and regular assessments to track player progress and tailor development plans.

Game Exposure

Giving players opportunities to compete in high-level domestic matches including ILT20 Development Tournament; Overseas Tours

Pathway to Pro

Creating a clear route for players to progress to teams like the Desert Vipers in the ILT20, and potentially into national squads.

Community

Supporting cricket's growth across the region by developing local talent and building a sustainable cricketing ecosystem.

Jack Luffman

Development Lead

Jack is the only full-time cricket Development Lead in the UAE. Spearheading the club’s youth programmes and community outreach efforts, he leads the franchise’s award-winning Schools Programme, working closely with local and international schools across the UAE and abroad.

Arron Lilley

Head Coach

A former professional cricketer with Lancashire and Leicestershire, Arron is Head Coach of the Talent Pathway. He played more than 150 professional games across all three formats scoring in excess of 2,500 runs and taking 150+ wickets

Chaya Mughal

Development Lead

Chaya Mughal is a trailblazer in UAE cricket, a former national captain turned development leader, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of women cricketers in the Emirates.

Programme Logistics

What are the age groups eligible for the Talent Pathway?
Boys and girls U14–U19
What are the session timings and days of the week?
Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6.30–8.30pm (TBD)
Are there any trial sessions or assessments before joining?
Those invited will join.
Can players join mid-term?
There will be ongoing trials/recommendations so we can allow people to join mid-term & mid-season.

Selection & Trials

How are players selected for the Talent Pathway?
On a termly basis we will offer trialists a chance to join a session and then, if successful, join the Pathway. Further trial dates TBC.
If not selected, can players reapply or try again?
Yes.
Is prior cricket experience required, or is the programme open to beginners?
Prior experience is required. We don’t yet have a programme for beginners.

Costs & Payments

What’s included in the registration fee?
Teamwear.
What is the refund policy if a player withdraws mid-term?
No refunds unless the player suffers a long-term injury.

Player Development

How will player progress be assessed and communicated to parents?
Data dashboards/app regularly updated; termly parents’ meetings.
Are there scholarships or sponsorships for outstanding talent or families in need?
Not yet.
Will players have access to individual coaching or only group sessions?
Players can ask for 1-1 sessions — at an additional cost.

Pathway Opportunities

What is the pathway beyond this programme?
ILT20 and other franchise cricket; UK-based placements at schools/clubs.
Do players get to meet/train with Desert Vipers ILT20 professionals?
Yes, during the tournament.

Parental Involvement & Support

Are parents allowed to watch training sessions and matches?
Matches yes, training no.
Is transportation provided for games or tours?
TBC.

Well-being and Safety

What safety protocols are in place for injuries, heat, etc.?
All staff will be fully First Aid trained.
What support is offered for player mental health and well-being?
Use of Desert Vipers’ full-time Wellbeing Coach, Sanj, available to all players.
